Compatibility is a chain
A card can communicate with a reader yet fail elsewhere in the system. Validate the exact credential technology, frequency, reader firmware, controller, access-management platform, operating system, browser, middleware and identity provider in the ordered configuration.
Physical access technologies
IDEX currently lists technologies including MIFARE DESFire EV3, LEGIC Neon, HID Seos, PKOC, LEAF and HID DESFire SIO. A portfolio list does not prove that every technology is present in every card; request a configuration-specific matrix.
Digital authentication
FIDO2 support can enable passwordless authentication to compatible services, but enterprise policy, platform support, NFC behavior and authenticator management still determine the real user journey. PIV/PKI support adds separate middleware and certificate-lifecycle requirements.
Power and antenna alignment
Reader-powered biometric cards need sufficient energy for sensor capture and matching. Test reader models, mounting, card orientation, distance and peak-use conditions. Older readers deserve explicit testing rather than a general compatibility promise.
Build a test matrix
Record every reader and platform version, expected function, first-attempt success, retries, time to authenticate and observed failure. Approve only the combinations actually tested.
